“In a world that is multipolar and America has less relative power, the United States no longer has the luxury to practice statecraft badly.”

Ambassador Dennis Ross, one of the nation’s most seasoned diplomats, joins The Common Good in conversation with Rick Salomon to unpack the global and regional challenges reshaping American power and offer a pragmatic blueprint on U.S. policy toward China, Iran, and Israeli-Palestinian conflict, as detailed in Ross’s new book “Statecraft 2.0. If you're concerned about the next foreign policy blunder—or the vacuum it may leave—this is a conversation you won’t want to miss.

About Our Speakers

Ambassador Dennis Ross is the William Davidson Distinguished Fellow and counselor at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy, and teaches at Georgetown University’s Center for Jewish Civilization. A veteran diplomat with over three decades of experience, he has shaped U.S. policy on the Middle East and the former Soviet Union across multiple administrations, serving key roles under Presidents Reagan, George H.W. Bush, Clinton, and Obama.

As the U.S. point man on the Middle East peace process under Presidents Bush and Clinton, Ross played a pivotal role in the 1995 Interim Agreement, the 1997 Hebron Accord, and the Israel-Jordan peace treaty. Under President Obama, he served as special assistant to the president and senior director for the Central Region on the National Security Council, and earlier as special advisor on Iran to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Ross also directed the State Department’s Policy Planning Staff, contributing to U.S. strategy on German unification, NATO expansion, arms control, and the 1991 Gulf War. He has received the Presidential Medal for Distinguished Federal Civilian Service and the State Department’s highest honor.

Ross has authored several books, and his latest, “Statecraft 2.0": What America Needs to Lead in a Multipolar World” examines the art of statecraft in a changing and challenging world.
