About our Speaker

Senator Angela Alsobrooks represents Maryland in the United States Senate, elected in 2024 after serving as Prince George’s County Executive and as the county’s State’s Attorney. The first Black person to represent Maryland in the Senate, she brings to Washington a record of hands-on leadership in public safety, economic development, and community empowerment.

A lifelong Marylander raised in a working-class family in Camp Springs, Alsobrooks was inspired by her family’s experience with injustice to pursue a career in law and public service. She has often said her most important title is “Alex’s mom,” reflecting her years of raising her daughter as a single parent. In the Senate, she continues to focus on fairness, opportunity, and making government work for the people it serves.
